Standing in a stream of water
Deep unto my shins
I glimpse an opening ahead
where waters spread out and I will need to swim.
I question if I am ready,
what I will lose when I jump in.
What can I carry with me
along the way?
A stone slick with moss
tempts my toes to touch and try a forward step
but I am learning
a green surface can cause a slip,
so too can silver stone.
Cautious but eager
I turn over stones finding small fish swim -
I follow their direction
and head toward open water.
